Virtual training workshop on weather and climate services for the energy and related sectors in South America

This virtual workshop for the energy sector in Latin America is organized by the WMO within the framework of the ENANDES project (Enhancing Adaptive Capacity of Andean Communities through Climate Services). The course welcomed delegates from National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), Ministries of Energy, energy users, and stakeholders from public, private, and academic sectors from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, as part of the ENANDES+ project.

Renewable energies are intricately tied to meteorology, underscoring the critical importance of bolstering NMHSs in the transition to clean energy. WMO is dedicated to enhancing the capacities of Regional Partnership III countries to enhance meteorological, hydrological, and climate services for the energy sector. The 6-day course was organized following the format outlined below:

  • Sessions 1, 2 and 3: Experience sharing sessions for NMHSs focusing on the need for weather and climate services for the energy sector, the status of weather, hydrological and climate services, and international, regional and national best practice perspectives.
  • Sessions 4 and 5: Technical sessions exploring the technical aspects of weather, hydrological and climate services, co-production of energy services and the development of national renewable energy atlases.
  • Session 6: Offers a practical opportunity to collaboratively develop a national mini-project, with the participation of national representatives from the public, private and academic sectors.
