The 3rd issue of WMO Climate and Energy Newsletter is out: Spotlight on New Reports and Global Engagements

The WMO Climate and Energy Unit is pleased to announce the release of the third Newsletter issue, a publication highlighting WMO work on supporting weather, water and climate-informed energy planning and resilience worldwide. 

This edition is organized into three sections: Highlights from the Secretariat, Energy Plus, and Looking Forward To. 

What’s Inside 

1. Highlights from the Secretariat 

  • New WMO–IRENA joint report on how 2024’s record heat affected renewable energy resources and electricity demand. 
  • Two new technical publications: National Renewable Energy Atlases (NRAs) guidelines and early warning systems for the energy sector (case studies from China). 
  • Key capacity-building and policy engagement across regionsincluding regional WEFE Nexus workshop in Latin America and climate-informed energy planning event in Mozambique. 

2. Energy Plus 

  • UN Secretary-General’s special report highlights accelerating progress. 
  • WMO engagement with partners including IEA and IAEA to advance climate-informed resilience for energy infrastructure and safety.

  • WEF Nexus report: A report on best practices for the Water–Energy–Food (WEF) Nexus in the MENA region, as pressures on water, energy, and food systems intensify.
