Module under the Long-Term Energy Planning (LTEP) capacity development initiative
WMO, together with GIZ and Aerthydral Collective, delivered a capacity development module to support Mozambique’s institutions in integrating climate science into long-term energy policy and planning. The training focused on using historical records and climate projections to strengthen energy-system resilience—particularly for hydropower, solar and wind—while aligning long-term planning with national and international climate commitments (NDCs, LT-LEDS and the Energy Transition Strategy 2023–2050).
Across interactive sessions, case studies and hands-on exercises, participants explored how to: (1) use climate data to inform long-term investment decisions; (2) access reliable datasets through WMO systems such as WIGOS and WIS; (3) apply global and regional datasets (e.g., CORDEX, IPCC projections, hydrometeorological forecasts) in a Mozambican context; and (4) assess vulnerabilities of energy assets and grids to climate extremes and variability. The module also introduced practical WMO tools, including the WMO Energy & Meteorology Portal and the Global Energy Resilience Atlas, as entry points for turning climate intelligence into operational decisions.
